During lockdown on first COVID-19 out break, schools were closed and the business
houses around our villages came to a standstill. There was no income so spending on
women’s cleanliness was on a low priority.

Realising this we found support to supply sanitary napkins, soaps and immunity
mixtures (made out of local herbs) to women and about 4,000 adolescent girls of 180
villages in Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Thiruvannamalai districts.

GUIDE team, during Tsunami, ensured that the women and girl children of all the
coastal communities had equal attention for relief and where it did not happen,
GUIDE team provided for the left out women, children and trans.

GUIDE also encouraged women to try new alternatives such as production of ice in
smaller units in one village. GUIDE also helped with house building in situ for 56
families, where women played a crucial role in planning and supervision.

GUIDE also helps the children of these women, especially the girl children tocontinue their education by providing books, stationery and dresses.
